Beware the Kissing Monster!

My human has been so busy lately that she hasn’t been able to spend as much time with us as we’d like. But she’s on vacation for a week, which means we will get lots more time with her.

But… lots of time at home can sometimes coincide with reappearance of … The Kissing Monster! (*gasp*) It doesn’t happen often, but when it does… the horror!

When I’m hanging out on her shoulder, sometimes she asks me to “step off”. But sometimes I don’t wanna step off and she warns me, “be careful, or the Kissing Monster might come out.” Then, if I don’t step off …. (*shudders*)

… first a smooch lands on my head (*mwah*)

… then I feel a kiss on my wing (*mwah*)

… then a kiss on my toes (*mwah*)

Then mwahmwahmwahmwahmwahmwahmwah… there are kisses raining down on me all over! They follow me until I run down the human’s arm and don’t stop until I’m safely back on my perch. And I thank my lucky stars I was able to escape the Kissing Monster by the skin of my nares.

But two seconds later I’m begging to be picked up again. Sometimes hanging out on my human is worth the occasional risk of running into the Kissing Monster.

  1. It’s because Pionus smell SO good! (Or so Mom says.) Besides, we’re all so kissable! I don’t love it either but you’ve got to humor the humans!

  2. Oh yes, I am constantly being told how yummy I smell! I wonder if that’s why the Kissing Monster doesn’t come after the Stu-Monster as often. Apparently he doesn’t smell as good (also, he bites).

  3. Mom keeps saying she would like to bottle the scent and call it “Pionus Cologne-us”. Hehehe

  4. I would definitely buy a bottle for my human. Then she could just open that if she wanted a whiff, rather than trying to smell me all the time. ;)

  5. Around here, we call it “active love.” Swoozie has this “flock cry” when mom burd isn’t around that’ll shatter glass. The second or third time she does that I immediately shout, “SWOOZIE! I LOVE YOU SO!!!”, then run over and hug the crap out of her cooing & cuddling & basically imitating that snowman out of the Bugs Bunny cartoon. She makes, “birdy is NOT HAPPY WITH YOU!” noises until I put her up. Works very well, actually.
